The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is nearing the completion of Package-I, a 30-kilometer stretch of the six-lane, signal-free Ambala-Chandigarh Greenfield Expressway. Subject to final clearances, the route is scheduled to open to traffic on December 15, 2026.
Spanning from Ambala to IT City Chowk in Mohali, the project is designed to reduce commute times by 40 to 50 minutes. By bypassing congested urban pockets such as Chandigarh, Zirakpur, and Dera Bassi, the expressway enhances regional mobility, facilitates seamless access to the Mohali International Airport, and strengthens long-distance connectivity toward northern destinations including Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir.
